Hello Spoontaneous Readers!
Today we will be exploring one of San Antonio's most visually appealing and popular bakeries: Bakery Lorraine.
Atmosphere and Service:

Bakery Lorraine has french inspired pastries and coffee drinks. They have options for indoor and outdoor seating at their location in the Pearl Brewery district. The overall atmosphere is convivial for all people. It is quiet enough to pull out a laptop to get work done, but lively enough to meet with some friends for a coffee date.

The young staff had good energy to match the setting and were helpful and knowledgable about their drinks and sweets.
Food and Quality:
Look at how beautiful these pastries are!

They had two different cases of pastries, one that they called "dry pastries" kept in an ambient room temperature case, and the other in what was a "cold" refrigerated case. It is easy to see that all of the treats look beautiful and the cases were clean and well kept.
On this day when I asked the staff what was the most popular item they sold in both the ambient and cold case, the reply today was: the raspberry and cheese danish, and the chocolate tart. Of course I had to get both to report to our spoontaneous readers.

The chocolate tart was beautiful to look at complete with a chocolate curl and mini chocolate macron on top. The tart shell was consistent in thickness and there was caramel layer between the crust and the chocolate. The flavors of caramel or chocolate were not anything that stood out as both the chocolate and caramel were too mild in flavor for the tart. The most prominent thing about it was the tart shell which is hard to keep eating after a few bites. Overall, it was not a stunning pastry.
The raspberry cheese danish was not as visually appealing, but much more enjoyable to eat out of the two pastries I purchased. This danish at Bakery Lorraine stands out in my mind because it has a nice balance of filling and delicious pastry dough. The bread of the danish was flaky and buttery, you are able to see the layers upon biting into it. The filling is concentrated to the very middle of the danish with a good balance of cream cheese and fresh raspberries on top. This is a wonderful treat to have with a coffee or for a solo "treat yo self" moment.
Price:
The prices at Bakery Lorraine lean more towards the expensive side for a low income college student. 4 pastries at Bakery Lorraine came to about $20 in total. Overall, it is a nice way to treat yourself but isn't really a place to drop in regularly.
Overall:
Bakery Lorraine is a beautiful and higher end bakery in San Antonio. The pastries are unique and good quality. The raspberry and cheese danish hits the mark for that buttery and flaky dough. Bakery Lorraine has three different locations in San Antonio so if you happen upon one when you're in town, it's worth a try.
